When I got into cycling back in the mid-90s, one of the first essentials I purchased was a Silca Pista floor pump. Sadly, that pump got lost in the shuffle of moving, roommates, life. When its replacement failed on me this summer, it was time for a new Pista.

I’m a fan of clean, timeless design, and equipment that I can hand down to my kids. That’s the Silca Pista. No fancy (unnecessary) digital gauges, or any of that crap. Just a large gauge, a stable foot hold, wood handle (!) and durable (replaceable!) chuck.

The Silca brand has changed hands since my first Pista, but the new owners have gone to great lengths to preserve the brand’s heritage. In today’s world of disposable everything, Silca is a breath of fresh air. The Pista is a work of art, and a reliable tool that I know I can count on for as long as I’m pedaling a bicycle.
