I live in a cold climate. Minneapolis is winter friendly, but there is a point when it’s just time to put a bike in a box and ship it somewhere warm. Making sure that you meet it where it lands is the next piece of the puzzle. I’d suggest Sedona, Arizona. Here are the top five reasons you should plan a winter bike trip.
It’s pretty basic. We all need sunlight to feel alive. Being stuck inside a jacket and ski pants for 5 months of the year inhibits your intake of Vitamin D. Taking your shirt off and laying on a rock in the middle of the desert is worth every minute cuddled next to that overweight lady on the plan ride.
Push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, dips these are all great exercise and i’d adhere to your vigilance, but nothing can emulate climbing up steep and rocky single-track. Additionally, what goes up must come down. If you want the edge when spring comes around, then the tests that you put yourself to all winter will come to fruition come spring.
Getting out with the guys (or gals, or both) is a necessity. However you assimilate your tribe, make sure that they are ready to have a good time and ready to grow as a group.
Getting some ride time in a different climate is a must for the relationship between you and your best friend (i.e. your bike). Getting rad and jumping off some stuff or bombing a shoot is just what the doctor ordered. Bonus Points: identifying all the bike problems you had when you put your bike away once the snow started flying and getting them fixed before spring.
Let’s face it….life takes it’s toll on us. We all need to get away and do something for ourselves sometimes. Winter bike trips are a great way for us to see where we are in life and get back into it with full force. Call some friends. Pick a spot. Get there and get Rad!
