I keep a plastic bin packed with essentials and “just in case” supplies in the back of my 4Runner. In that bin is jumper cables, a first aid kit, a frisbee, a MSR WindBurner stove, lighter, climbing rope, bungee cords, TP, a PakTowl, and a Joey chair. This chair goes with me everywhere. My buddy nearly swiped it from me after spending three rainy days at camp in Fruita this spring (he promptly bought one after returning to Santa Fe, thanks to the desert sand-friendly wide feet). My kids lay claim to it at soccer games. And the Joey is my go-to chair for Red Rocks pre-show and Mary Jane post snowboard lot beers.

Ruby on the beach at Turquiose Lake, near Leadville, CO

My daughter soaks in the morning sun in the TravelChair Joey. Turquoise Lake, near Leadville, CO. Mitch Kline

One of my favorite features – those wide feet that help prevent the Joey from sinking in the sand.

BOTTOM LINE

The Joey is lightweight, affordable, durable, easy to set up, and folds down to the size of a loaf of bread in less than a minute. It’s a no-brainer option for anyone looking to have portable seating that doesn’t take up much room in their car or pack. It’s come in handy for me countless times, and I don’t leave home without it.
