I love a good ultra lightweight shell. It’s an essential piece of gear for anyone who travels or spends time outdoors. These ultra light jackets have a place. They’re great when space is at a premium, and I need a just-in-case option on mountain bike rides or runs. But they lack some of the comforts we’re accustomed to, like pockets! You could argue that pockets aren’t necessary on a backcountry mountain bike ride, but they’re an important feature when traveling or at an outdoor music festival. Efficient use of space is still important in these scenarios, but not so much so that all comfort and convenience features have to be sacrificed.

The Pack & Go Shell from Jack Wolfskin is designed to be a lightweight and packable travel jacket. Like many other lightweight jackets, the Pack & Go Shell packs into its own pocket. But unlike many ultra lightweight shells, this jacket features comforts that others sacrifice.

Another nice feature that you won’t find on many (any?) ultra lightweight jackets is a mesh liner. The Pack & Go Shell features an ECOSPHERE liner made of recycled polyester. The liner provides a comfortable next-to-skin feel.

The Pack & Go Shell could also serve as a snowboard or ski jacket. Wide cuffs easily fit over bulky gloves, and there’s plenty of tech in this jacket to keep riders warm and dry on the mountain.

Bottom Line: If you’re looking for a versatile jacket for travel, festivals and outdoor concerts (don’t believe that 20% chance of rain at Red Rocks!), and winter endeavors, the Jack Wolfskin Pack & Go should be high on your list. Bonus points for sustainability, through the use of recycled ECOSPHERE polyester in the shell and lining.
