After a monthlong break, Billy Strings kicked off a three night sold out run at 1stBank Center in Broomfield, CO last night. The band showed few signs of being off the road, as they powered through two energetic sets. First set highlights included a massive mid-set “Hide & Seek”, and a set-closing three-song segue of “Taking Water” into “End of the Rainbow” into “Reuben’s Train.”
Billy emerged for the second set, to “scrub a few off”, taking a seat on a stool at the front of the stage. He treated the hushed crowd to five solo songs, at one point stopping to recall his recent travels when he questioned a TSA agent about checking his guitar, marveling at how good it sounds, and questioning if it in fact a living, breathing being. His solo set was capped with an extended “Guitar Peace” that transitioned seamlessly into the band returning to the stage to join Billy for a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Fearless.” A lengthy “Away From The Mire” highlighted the second set, along with closing combo of “Pyramid Country” into “Little Maggie”, setting the stage for a highly anticipated Friday night show.
