Kentucky psychedelic rockers My Morning Jacket celebrated the twentieth anniversary of their highly acclaimed second album, It Still Moves (released September 09, 2003) by playing the album in its entirety on the first night of their two-night stand at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Cloudy weather that turned to late afternoon and evening drizzle threatened to dampen spirits, but the rain stopped just before My Morning Jacket took the stage, making for a perfectly calm and cool night.
Most of the songs on It Still Moves have been longtime setlist staples, and dedicated fans have seen these songs performed live many times. But even for hardcore fans, an album played in its entirety provides a new context.
Opener M Ward joined the band on guitar for “Golden” and “Steam Engine.”
After stepping off stage for a few minutes following album closer “One In The Same”, the band returned for a nine song second set featuring some of the most popular songs in their catalog.
From spirited set two opener “Victory Dance” to soulful takes on At Dawn favorites “The Way That He Sings” and “Honest Man” to dreamy “Feel You” and “Slow Slow Tune” to set closers “Gideon” and “Wordless Chorus”, MMJ kept the energy high and proved once again why they’re one of the best live bands on the planet.
