Chicago jam titans, Umphrey’s McGee descended on Denver for a four night run at Fillmore Auditorium over the New Year’s weekend. The string of dates included a unique benefit show on January 1st dubbed “Reel to Real.” The new year’s day show included the premier of Reel to Real, the band’s new documentary film that features behind the scenes camcorder footage culled from the band’s archives. Proceeds from the silent auction and raffle presented by Mountain Hardwear and Jambase.com, that included a signed acoustic guitar, framed and signed photographic prints, and Mountain Hardwear gear, benefitted Boulder-based Conscious Alliance, who provide meals through their Art That Feeds program. Fans enjoyed an open bar throughout the night, with a happy hour preceding the film and an eight song set, with the band telling stories and explaining songs throughout. Jeferson Waful proved once again that he’s the undisputed king of concert lighting, and this special show has me hooked on this band!
