No one can mess with old metal dudes. Surviving blizzard conditions on their way in from Kansas City, Corrosion of Conformity, Weedeater, Crowbar, and Mothership descended on Englewood’s Gothic Theater to deliver the heaviest of goods from their sludge caravan, which is currently terrorizing venues and significant others as they make their way across the United States on their “A Quest to Believe, A Call to the Void” tour.
Dallas-based space mongrels Mothership opened with evening with groovy, tongue-extended hard rock romps. Following the young Texan three-piece was Crowbar, with their unmistakable NOLA sludge featuring the exasperated, hulking grunts and constricted, pained growls of Kirk Windstein. Seasoned road warriors and moonshine connoisseurs Weedeater pummeled a particularly crusty, old-school crowd with an abbreviated, but nevertheless crushing set of their particularly savage southern doom. To cap off a proper night of banged heads and B.O., Corrosion of Conformity came storming on stage with the 2005 classic Stonebreaker, complete with Pepper fucking Keenan himself at the head of the stage. The entire band, despite their graying and vanishing hair, sound exactly the same, delivering their unique blend of hard rock and southern thrash.
The tour continues west with dates in California, Oregon, Washington, and Vancouver.
