I listen to a lot of bands. And I have a fairly long list of artists that I turn to consistently in my musical rotation. But very few have reached the level of interest that I have in Futurebirds. Their style of psychedelic Southern country rock strikes a chord with me in a way that’s difficult to describe – a perfect mix of all the things I’m looking for in a listening experience. Indeed, one of my favorite bands over the last few years. Seeing them live has been a challenge, missing them multiple times in Denver since I started listening to them at the recommendation of a friend, who has seen most of those shows I missed.
This would also be my first show at Globe Hall, the dingy BBQ joint and concert venue located at the northern edge of downtown Denver. A space that serves perfectly for these Athens, GA rockers.
The band weaved their way through an energetic fourteen song set that included favorites like “Paranoia Letters”, “Bad Man”, “APO”, “Johnny Utah”, and set closers “Rodeo” and “Hotel Parties.” A few new songs were also sprinkled into the mix, giving us hope that a new album might be coming in the not-too-distant future. Their small but very loyal following made this show feel like the band was playing to a room full of friends. Cheers!
