ASPEN SNOWMASS, Colo.—July 26, 2020—This weekend, mountain bike racers competed in the Audi Snowmass 50 Mountain Bike Race along a course consisting of one 25-mile loop that ascended approximately 5,000 vertical feet. Racers competed in the individual, two-lap race on Saturday, July 25 and the team race on Sunday, July 26.
The course took riders on popular Snowmass singletrack trails such as Cross Mountain, descending Viking in the Snowmass Bike Park, then utilizing Powerline and Tom Blake to connect to the Sky Mountain Park trail system to race favorites such as Deadline, Seven Star and the Rim Trail, before finishing off on Fanny Hill.
Competitors who raced in the 50-mile solo racer category rode two 25-mile loops, totaling 50 miles and close to 10,000 vertical feet of climbing. Partner teams raced a 25-mile loop totaling 50 miles together.
Aspen local, John Gaston, took home the win in the individual, 50-mile race on Saturday with a time of four hours and eight minutes. Lucca Trapani out of Glenwood Springs, Colo., took second, with Aaron Pool, another Aspen local close behind for the third place finish.
On the women’s side, Crystal Anthony out of Bentonville, Ark. finished first with the time of four hours and 49 minutes. Morgan Hill out of Glenwood Springs, Colo., took second, with Bayli Mcspadden out of Edwards, Colo., close behind for the third place finish.
For the Team Race Men’s Division that took place earlier this morning, Lance Armstrong and Dean Hill out of Aspen, Colo. took home the win for the men with a combined time of five hours and four minutes. Aaron Pool and Joe Lewis, another local Aspen team, took second place and Mitch Westall and Charlie Knoll from Littleton, Colo. were close behind for third.
Amanda Felder and Michelle Henry out of Del Mar, Calif., took the first place slot in the Team Race Women’s Division with a combined time of seven hours and 23 minutes. They were followed close behind by Andrea Hart and Liz West, hailing from Boulder, Colo.
For the Coed Division, Rea Kolbl and Roy Hobbs took home the win with a combined time of six hours and 14 minutes. Crystal Anthony and Caleb Christian hailing from Bentonbille, Ark. came in for a close second place finish.
Each podium winner from the Audi Snowmass 50 Mountain Bike Race will receive Klean Kanteen trophies and prizes.
